Interview with Piero Lorenzo: Building Bridges Between Italy and the U.S. Through Real Estate8/22/2025 Q: Can you tell us about your roots and your personal journey from Italy to the U.S.?
I was born and raised in Italy, where I lived for 42 years. Florence shaped much of who I am: its art, culture, and history gave me a deep sense of beauty and tradition. In 2015, I moved to California with my family. The U.S. opened up new opportunities for me, both in life and in business. Today, I return to Italy twice a year to stay close to my roots, and I carry both identities proudly — Italian and American. Q: What inspired you to become a real estate professional specialized in U.S.–Italy transactions? The inspiration came from my grandfather’s story. He arrived at Ellis Island at only 15, searching for a better life. Generations later, I find myself helping Americans make the opposite journey — not to leave behind, but to discover Italy through buying a home there. It feels like closing a circle. My dual citizenship, my deep knowledge of both markets, and my personal connection to Italy made this path a natural choice. As I shared in a recent blog post, you can read more about my grandfather’s journey here. Q: What is unique about helping Americans buy a home in Italy? It’s not just about real estate, it’s about a dream. For many Americans, Italy represents lifestyle, heritage, and quality of life. But buying property in Italy can be very complex: language barriers, bureaucracy, different legal systems, and cultural differences. My role is to simplify that journey and to be a trusted guide who understands both worlds. Q: What are the main challenges your clients face, and how do you help them overcome these? The biggest challenges are navigating Italy’s unique legal and tax systems, avoiding pitfalls with properties that may have unresolved issues, and managing the process from overseas. I help by providing a network of trusted professionals in Italy — from notaries and inspectors to tax advisors. I also offer virtual tours and full transaction support, so even clients who buy “unseen” feel confident. Q: How does your academic background in Economics and Business Administration influence your work? I first studied Economics at the University of Florence. More recently, I earned my associate degree in Business Administration at the College of San Mateo, graduating Magna Cum Laude, and I am now completing my bachelor’s in Economics at San José State University. This academic journey sharpened my analytical skills, especially in taxation, international transactions, and market trends. It allows me to give my clients not just real estate advice, but a full economic perspective on their investment. Q: What does success mean to you — professionally and personally? Professionally, success means helping American families achieve the dream of owning a home in Italy — safely, smoothly, and happily. Personally, success is being able to balance my career with my role as a husband and father to my 8-year-old son. To me, success is not just measured in deals closed, but in lives touched. Q: What advice would you give to Americans dreaming of buying a home in Italy? I would say: don’t let the challenges discourage you. Italy is worth it. Find the right professional who understands both the U.S. and Italian systems, someone who can bridge the gap for you. With the right guidance, buying in Italy can be one of the most rewarding decisions of your life. Q: Any final thoughts you’d like to share? Yes. For me, this work is not just a job, it’s a calling. It’s a way of honoring my roots, my grandfather’s journey, and the connection between two cultures I deeply love. Helping Americans find a home in Italy is my way of giving back — creating new stories that, like mine, bridge the ocean between Italy and the United States. www.pierolorenzorealtor.com
