Padua is a city and comune in Veneto, northern Italy. It is the capital of the province of Padua and the economic and communications hub of the area. Padua's population is 214,000 (as of 2011). The city is sometimes included, with Venice (Italian Venezia) and Treviso, in the Padua-Treviso-Venice Metropolitan Area(PATREVE) which has a population of c. 2,600,000. Padua stands on the Bacchiglione River, 40 kilometres (25 miles) west of Venice and 29 km (18 miles) southeast of Vicenza. The Brenta River, which once ran through the city, still touches the northern districts. Its agricultural setting is the Venetian Plain (Pianura Veneta). To the city's south west lies the Euganaean Hills, praised by Lucan and Martial, Petrarch, Ugo Foscolo, and Shelley.
It hosts the University of Padua, founded in 1222, where later Galileo Galilei was a lecturer between 1592 and 1610. The city is picturesque, with a dense network of arcaded streets opening into large communal piazze, and many bridges crossing the various branches of the Bacchiglione, which once surrounded the ancient walls like a moat. Why Buy a Home in Padua?
|
|
Can foreigners buy property in Padua? Yes. U.S. and non-EU citizens can buy in Italy with a Codice Fiscale and a notary. I assist you throughout the legal and tax process.
What extra costs should I expect? Plan for 6-7% above the price for taxes, notary, registration and agency fees; plus utilities, condo charges, IMU/TARI, and possible heritage-related checks.
Is short-term renting allowed? Often yes in Padua and nearby towns, but always confirm with city regulations and condominium bylaws.
Where is better value found? Outskirts of Padua, smaller historic towns in the province, and countryside villas in the Euganean Hills generally offer more space and lower €/m².
I guide international buyers through every step of purchasing in Padua and the Veneto region: property search, private visits, full due diligence, and coordination with trusted legal, tax and notary partners.
